PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for suppressing generation of dust, filling a groove between magnetic patterns with a nonmagnetic body and manufacturing a patterned medium of a flat surface with secured flying stability of a floating head without degrading a ferromagnetic recording layer. SOLUTION: The method is for manufacturing the patterned medium having a magnetic recording layer including projected magnetic patterns and the nonmagnetic body filling recessed parts between the magnetic patterns on a substrate. A first nonmagnetic body is formed so as to fill the recessed parts between the magnetic patterns, the interface of the first nonmagnetic body is modified, a second nonmagnetic body is formed on the first nonmagnetic body, and the second and first nonmagnetic bodies are etched back.
