摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain illumination for an R-field image and an L-field image by batch illumination without producing cross-talk. SOLUTION: A video display device can display videos corresponding to two or more respective observers, and comprises: a liquid crystal display element 24; a display element driving circuit 34 for driving the liquid crystal display element 24; an illumination system (L-side light source 20, R-side light source 25, light transmission plate) capable of changing over a direction of the illumination for the liquid crystal display element 24; and a controller 31 which controls the display element driving circuit 34 to alternately input different videos to the liquid crystal display element 24 and also makes the liquid crystal display element 24 display the different videos in time-division manner by changing over the illumination directions of the illumination system in synchronism with the video inputs, and timing of scanning is controlled so that the sum of a video scanning period from the upper end up to the lower end of the liquid crystal display element 24 concerning one video input to the liquid crystal display element 24 and a liquid crystal response period at the lower end of the liquid crystal display element 24 becomes smaller than a field period of one video.
