<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical receiver for achieving downsizing, cost-effectiveness, and low power consumption while maintaining the performance of a high quality/a high speed/a large capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The optical receiver includes: a photodiode 1 for converting an optical received signal into an electric signal; a soft decision identification section 2 for generating a digital code including discrimination information and reliability information on the basis of a plurality of identification results obtained by identifying the electric signal by a plurality of threshold values; a demultiplexer section 5 for demultiplexing the digital code by each bit to produce low speed parallel digital codes; a quantization degeneration section 15 that generates degeneration reliability information resulting from degenerating the reliability information of the low speed parallel digital codes and generates degenerated digital codes wherein the degenerated reliability information is included into the discrimination information; and an FEC decoding section 7 for carrying out error correction by using the reliability information included in the degenerated digital codes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
