<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of resolving the problem of crack and breakage which are generated during sintering by contraction variation caused by orientation of alumina particles in a large member for a liquid crystal manufacturing unit comprising a long board alumina sintered compact with not smaller than 100 mm width, not shorter than 2 m length, and not smaller than 20 mm thick, manufactured by gel casting method. <P>SOLUTION: In a nearly rectangular solid alumina sintered compact with not shorter than 2,000 mm length, not smaller than 100 mm width, and not shorter than 20 mm thick, difference between the X-ray diffraction peak strength ratio [surface (006)/surface (110)] at the center of its main surface in the direction of length and that at the end of the main surface in the direction of length is 0.01-0.15 in absolute value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
