PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee output performance, by restraining an output variation in a high load area including the whole load operation, in a constitution for controlling the cylinder intake air volume, by controlling an operation characteristic of an intake valve. SOLUTION: This intake air volume control device of an engine has a variable valve train capable of varying the operation characteristic of the intake valve, and comprises a first target operation characteristic setting means B14 for setting a high load operation characteristic preset as the operation characteristic to be set in a predetermined high load area to a target operation characteristic of the intake valve in the predetermined high load area, and second target operation characteristic setting means B13 and B14 for setting the target operation characteristic of the intake valve on the basis of the calculated cylinder intake air volume, by calculating the cylinder intake air volume corresponding to target torque of the engine except for the predetermined high load area.
