PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization-independent optical isolator which hardly undergoes deterioration in an optical isolation function even used for a high output laser with a wavelength of 1.1μm or less and an output of 2W or greater. SOLUTION: The polarization-independent optical isolator for the high output laser has such structure that a birefringence crystal 4 of a wedge shape, a Farady rotator 5 having a Bi replacement type RIG film, and another birefringence crystal 4 are disposed along an optical axis, a fiber collimator 3 is disposed outside each birefringence crystal 4 on the optical axis, and a c-face sapphire single crystal 5a is stuck to each optical face of the Farady rotator 5 such that the c-axis of the sapphire single crystal is perpendicular to the optical face. The polarization-independent optical isolator for the high output laser is characterized in that the Farady rotator is disposed at an angle to the optical axis, thereby the angle of light transmitted through the birefringence crystal 4 and entering the c-face sapphire single crystal is in the range of 1°to 6°relative to the c-axis of the sapphire single crystal.
