A digital camera configured to generate a media key for media data. A camera is configured to determine a data identifier for one or more images captured by the camera. The camera may also optionally determine a decryption key for the one or more images. The camera is configured to generate a media key for the one or more images and associate information with the media key comprising the data identifier. Different mechanisms are provided for sharing media keys and captured images.
