The instrument (1) has a clock dial (2) and a pointer (3) for representing a variable parameter e.g. volume, fader or balance related to adjustment of an audio system, and temperature or ventilation strength related to adjustment of an air conditioning system. The pointer moves corresponding to the actuation of an operating unit e.g. rotary knob (7), which is coupled over a controller. The pointer moves with the same angular speed as the rotary knob, and a scale (4) is provided for indicating the parameter.
