<p>Ester derivatives of the phenolic hydroxyl group of buprenorphine are described that can be used in the treatment of opiate dependency and/or moderate to severe pain. The esters have an enhanced bioavailability, an enhanced duration of action, and a reduced abuse potential.</p>
