PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film with improved abrasion resistance, while having sufficient anti-reflection performance, a polarizing plate having an optical film as antireflection film, and an image display device.

SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical film has a layer coated with an embrocation which is cured by ionization radiation, on a transparent substrate. The embrocation has a compound (a) that generates an acid and/or a radical by ionization radiation, and the compound (a) is not made to be photosensitized before the exposure under the light of the wavelength where the compound (a) is not photosensitized or under conditions where light is blocked.
