<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish the power-saving operation of an elevator since the elevator installed in a non-office building such as a condominium building is frequently operated at an extremely light load of one or two persons. <P>SOLUTION: A balance relationship of elevator passenger weight in many utilization circumstances and a counterweight 20 is re-examined from the utilization circumstance, and made to be a balance point under a large majority of utilization conditions, for example, the light weight counterweight 20 balanced to 25% of the passenger weight to accomplish the energy-saving operation, thereby, heavy load operation applied to an excessive large burden to a drive device is restricted. The energy-saving operation and the operation restriction circumstance are disclosed in information to a user and an owner of the building.
