Heading C2C. 4 - (2 - Hydroxy - 3 - isopropylaminopropoxy)- indole and its acid addition salts are prepared by reacting an alkali metal salt of 4-hydroxyindole with epichlorohydrin, heating the product with isopropylamine or N-isopropylbenzylamine in the presence of an acid binding agent (which may be an excess of the amine) and removing the benzyl group (if present) by hydrogenolysis, optionally followed by salt formation. The compounds of the invention are #-adrenergic blocking agents, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier. |
