PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal information protection system and method for much more enhancing protection capability of personal information stored in a terminal, such as mobile phone terminal. SOLUTION: The terminal uses an encryption key, acquired in advance, to encrypt personal information, stores the encrypted personal information, and transmits the encrypted personal information and authentication information for authenticating the terminal to a server apparatus via a network, when personal information is utilized. Upon the receipt of the authentication information and the encrypted personal information from the terminal, the server apparatus uses the authentication information to authenticate the terminal, when the server apparatus successfully authenticates the terminal, the server apparatus uses a decryption key to decrypt the encrypted personal information and returns the personal information after the decryption, to the terminal. When personal information is received after the decryption from the server apparatus, the terminal temporarily stores the personal information after the decryption and deletes the personal information, when the use of the personal information after the decryption is finished.
