PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can move to the next action and start image formation at an early stage as soon as a necessary adjustment ends. SOLUTION: When a monitor voltage of a quantity of light of a laser diode detected by a photo-diode rises after the start and enters a gap between a starting power passing value MAX and a starting power passing value MIN, a bias adjustment process is started as part of the image formation action. An interval between the starting power passing value MAX and the starting power passing value MIN is set wider than an interval between a printing power passing value MAX and a printing power passing value MIN for judging an abnormality during image formation.
