PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate protective film which has few spot foreign matter and is excellent in optical characteristics. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing polarizing plate protective film, a polarizing plate protective film is manufactured according to a solution casting method by dissolving a lower fatty acid ester of cellulose as raw material into a solvent containing methylene chloride to prepare a dope, wherein the lower fatty acid is a fatty acid having the number of carbon atoms of 6 or less and the raw material satisfies the following relation: (crushed product made by crushing material essentially comprising the lower fatty acid ester of cellulose manufactured according to a solution casting method)/ä(crushed product made by crushing material essentially comprising the lower fatty acid ester of cellulose manufactured according to a solution casting method)+(lower fatty acid ester of cellulose)}=10 to 70 wt.%.
