PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further lower temperature in a drying process while preventing degradation of an element characteristic caused by drying by controlling ratios of isomer and impurities contained in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method of an organic EL element includes processes of: forming a positive electrode layer 3; forming a functional layer 5 including a hole injection/transport layer 6 and a luminescent layer 7 on the positive electrode layer 3; and forming a negative electrode layer 4 on the functional layer 5. In the process of forming the functional layer 5, the luminescent layer 6 is formed by applying and drying a liquid material prepared by dissolving or dispersing an organic layer material in an organic solvent; and, for the organic solvent, a substance containing at least any of o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene, and prepared by adjusting its ratio is used.
