A centrifuge has a drum swiveling around a horizontal rotational axis, in which a swiveling spiral (4) is arranged. A continuous solid outlet is provided at an end of the drum, and a continuous liquid outlet is provided in an opposite end of the drum. A discontinuous effective flow opening (10) has a closing device. A ring (11) is assigned to the flow opening as a closure device and is displaceable in a position to open the opening and in another position to close the opening, where the actuating device e.g. fluid actuating device, is assigned to the ring.
