The method involves guiding a substrate web (10) in perpendicular to an application device (40) by two rollers (18, 20). Vibration (94) of the substrate web is produced perpendicular to a conveying direction (16) or a vibration of a housing of the application device. The vibration of the housing is directed perpendicular to the conveying direction of the substrate path. The vibration of the substrate web is produced downstream in relation to the application device by the roller (20). An independent claim is also included for a device for coating of the substrate web.
