A TOPICAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING THE EXTRACT OF OLD PLATYCODON AND THE PURIFIED FRACTIONS THEREFROM INHIBITING SKIN AGING AND WRINKLE FORMATION

An extract of old platycodon grandiflorum and purified fractions thereof are provided to biosynthesize collagen, and inhibit the collagenase and active oxygen species, thereby being used as a pharmaceutical composition and a cosmetic composition for preventing skin aging and improving wrinkle. A skin external application composition for preventing skin aging and improving wrinkle comprises a crude extract of old platycodon grandiflorum obtained by drying and pulverizing more than 20 years old platycodon grandiflorum and then hot-water extracting it at a temperature of 90-95 deg.C, an inulin purified fraction thereof and an oligosaccharide purified fraction thereof obtained from a water soluble fraction of the crude extract or a crude saponin purified fraction thereof obtained from a methanol soluble fraction thereof. The water soluble fraction or a methanol soluble fraction is prepared by passing a filtrate solution of the crude extract through HP-20 column and then desorbing the remaining organic ingredients absorbed into the column using a methanol solution.
