PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass plate pulling up device capable of sucking and retaining a glass plate by a sufficient suction/retaining force and pulling up it without depositing stain on the surface of the glass plate. SOLUTION: The handling device 30 for the glass plate for sucking and retaining the thin glass plate 11 placed in a horizontal attitude and pulling up it has a suction device 7 provided with a box body 13 for covering the approximately whole area of the upper surface of the glass plate 11; a plurality of suction means 9 provided at front opening 13a of the box body 13 and sucking and retaining the glass plate 11; and a sucking means 12 provided on the back surface 13b of the box body 13 and sucking air in the box to bring it to a negative pressure state at the sucking of the glass plate 11.
