PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fail safe and traveling performance in relation to a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: SL1-SL5 generates control hydraulic pressure from line pressure of a supply port and output the same from an output port to control engagement and disengagement of corresponding engagement element, and output line pressure to the output port when line pressure is input to the supply port and a discharge port. Shift valves S1-S3 change over an oil path from a hydraulic pressure source to the supply ports and the discharge ports of SL1-SL5. A second fuel valve 29 is arranged in on oil path between the hydraulic pressure source and the supply port of the fourth control valve unit SL4, and shuts off the input port and the output port by having output pressure of the second control valve unit SL2 corresponding to an engagement element B2L interlocking in simultaneously engaging with an engagement element B1 input to a second hydraulic chamber 29e, and outputs line pressure to the output port when line pressure is input from the input port and a release port.
