PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the convenience of a user when searching for a place. SOLUTION: An initial peripheral search is performed, in response to the designation of an initial peripheral search (step S11). The result of this peripheral search is stored in a storage device as destination candidate information, while the contents of the candidate information are presented to the user (steps S12 and S13). Successively, a destination is selected from among presented destination candidate places to set a traveling route. If an instruction for a periphery re-search is given, while route guidance is performed, it is determined whether periphery re-search conditions are satisfied which have been set, from the viewpoint of whether the probability is high such that that of the search result of initial periphery search can be effectively utilized (step S19). When the result of this determination is affirmative, the candidate information is updated to the contents, obtained by therefrom eliminating the candidate place selected as the destination (step S20), and the contents of the updated candidate information are presented to the user (step S13).
