PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile terminal capable of easily backing up information in the mobile terminal into an external memory, a mobile terminal control method, a program, and a recording medium. SOLUTION: When a time measured by a timer in the portable terminal reaches the time preset by a user, backup processing is executed by automatically storing user-selected data of data in the portable terminal into the external memory. On that occasion, the backup processing is not executed when the external memory is not mounted and when an available capacity of the external memory is smaller than a data amount to be stored.
