Apparatus for cutting a continuous casting 1 comprises a carriage 4 supporting a cutting device such as a flame torch 9, means 18 for clamping the carriage to the casting and rollers 2 on the carriage for supporting the casting. The carriage has wheels (3), Fig. 2 (not shown), running along rails 6 and carries support rollers 2 for the casting 1. An acetylene cutting torch 9 is mounted for transverse movement in a block 7 by rack-and-pinion mechanism 10, 11 driven by motor 12. A roller 18 is mounted on a pivoted lever 14 and can be pressed against the casting 1 by pneumatic cylinders 15 for clamping the carriage to the casting during cutting. Roller 18 may also be driven by motor 19 for moving the casting prior to cutting off the first or last workpiece therefrom. Means are also provided for driving the carriage along its rails in both directions.</p> |
