<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discover a cartilage formation promoter useful as a preventive or therapeutic agent or the like of a disease originated from cartilage damage, for example, arthritis and rheumatism, and having little toxicity, side effect or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The cartilage formation promoter contains galacturonic acid or a salt thereof as an active ingredient.
