<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reflect movements of fingers over a keyboard on musical sounds by pitches with simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A musical sound controller recognizes positions of the fingers of a player over the keyboard 14K in a key pressing/releasing direction (in a vertical direction) and a key array direction (in a right-left direction/pitch direction) by imaging the respective fingers above the keyboard 14K by a plurality of imaging means (cameras) 18C and processing picked-up image data, and controls musical sounds based upon finger position information representing the recognized positions of the fingers. For example, the pitch of a musical sound (second musical sound) to be generated is specified according to the key-array-directional position (pitch position) of the finger position information and a musical sound having the specified pitch is generated or muted according to movements of a finger in the key pressing/releasing direction obtained from the finger position information.
