<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable steering angle steering device having a mechanical lock mechanism which does not hinder steering performance, and also to provide an automobile with the same, and a method of locking the variable steering angle steering device. <P>SOLUTION: A steering input shaft 15 and a carrier 4 of a first planetary reduction gear 20a are integrally structured with each other, and a steering output shaft 16 and a carrier 4 of a second planetary reduction gear 20b are integrally structured with each other. When a predetermined condition is satisfied, the steering input shaft 15 and the steering output shaft 16 are mechanically connected to each other so as to constrain relative rotation of a bearing inner ring 41 integrally formed with the carrier 4 of the first planetary reduction gear 20a with a bearing outer ring 42 integrally formed with the carrier 4 of the second planetary reduction gear 20b.
