PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black and white heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity and excellent in image tone. SOLUTION: The black and white heat developable photosensitive material contains at least a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent for silver ions, a coupler and a color developing agent on at least one surface of a support, wherein the reducing agent for silver ions is a compound represented by formula (R1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>1'</SP>each independently represent a 1-20C alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>2'</SP>each independently represent H or a substituent substitutable on the corresponding benzene ring; R<SP>3</SP>represents a substituent forming a 3- to 7-membered ring composed of atoms selected from C, O, N, S and P; and X and X' each independently represent H or a group substitutable on the corresponding benzene ring.
