PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect an elevator car from a dropping article when the dropping article dropping off in an elevator hoistway is generated caused by an accident and an earthquake. SOLUTION: The elevator hoistway protection system is provided with a dropping article receiving body 9 movable from a receiving position for receiving the dropping article dropping off in the elevator hoistway 1 and a storage position retreated from the receiving position; an emergency stop detection means for detecting emergency stop of the elevator car 2 positioned in the elevator hoistway 1; and a receiving position movement means for moving the dropping article receiving body 9 from the storage position to the receiving position based on the detection result by the emergency stop detection means.
