A combine harvester has a transverse threshing mechanism (13) including a threshing cylinder (14) and concave (15). A belt conveyor (24) is located below the concave (15) for moving material which has passed through the concave rearwardly towards a cleaning mechanism (22a, 22b). The belt convey (24) has a belt (31) supported internally on two spaced end rollers (33,34), a tension adjustment mechanism (36,37,38,39,40,41,42) being provided for adjusting the spacing between the rollers to adjust belt tension. The belt conveyor may also include a self -cleaning system (43,44) for clearing material which finds its way inside the belt (31).
