The device has two band separators separating remote and local signals, respectively, by frequency to generate related remote and local sub-band signals (R1-R4, L1-L4), each corresponding to a sub-band. Voice activity detectors (300) receive the respective remote and local sub-band signals to detect voice activities of the related sub-bands. Filters are configured to learn the related remote sub-band signal for filtering the related local sub-band signal, and to generate filter outputs (e1-e4) of the related sub-bands. A synthesizer mixes the outputs to generate an echo cancellation result. An independent claim is also included for an echo cancellation method for a voice interaction device.
