PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetostrictive torque sensor that can substantially uniform the temperature distribution in a magnetostriction film in heating the magnetostriction film, has a magnetostrictive film of uniform magnetic anisotropy, and has small variation in detection sensitivity, and to provide an electric power steering device loaded with the magnetostrictive torque sensor. SOLUTION: The magnetostrictive torque sensor 10 has a rotation shaft 11 having at least one magnetostriction film 14A and 14B. The rotation shaft 11 has small diameter sections 11e and 11f and large diameter sections 11b, 11c and 11d located in both end sides of these small diameter sections. The axial length of the small diameter sections is determined in relation to the coil width of an induction heating coil RC used in a high-frequency heating process, and is constituted so that one magnetostriction film is formed in the small diameter section.
