PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging condition guidance method whereby even a user unfamiliar with the handling of the imaging apparatus and providing instructions of imaging can easily arrange imaging conditions to obtain a target layout. SOLUTION: The user of the imaging apparatus acquires target layout data for representing the position and the size of a prescribed object to be imaged in a frame, and the imaging apparatus detects the prescribed object on a preliminary imaged image obtained by executing preliminary imaging during imaging waiting, compares the detected position and the size of the object with the position and the size of the same object represented by the target layout data to calculate the difference between them, and guides the user about at least one of zoom magnification, the imaging direction of the imaging apparatus and the position of the prescribed object so as to decrease the difference.
