PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device using an organic EL device as a light source, which has a small-size and a sufficient durability. SOLUTION: The light-emitting device has an anode and a cathode, at least one light-emitting layer containing an organic material, sandwiched between the anode and cathode, and at least two pixels each made up of an element that emits light through the passage of an electric current between the electrodes, and is characterized in that: all of the pixels are formed on or above an identical substratum; at least one of the electrodes of each pixel is connected to a driving circuit independently on a pixel basis so that an applied voltage or current can be independently controlled; and in each of the pixels, if L<SB>1</SB>denotes the minimum distance between neighboring pixels and L<SB>2</SB>denotes the maximum width of the pixel, then L<SB>1</SB>×n≥L<SB>2</SB>(wherein, n is a number in the range from 0.1 to 3) and L<SB>2</SB>is no greater than 100μm.
