The device has a base housing, a tiltable cover with a handle, and a shielding device (8) for protecting a hand that grips the handle against gases leaking from the housing. The device has a movable shielding body (10) that is displaceable between a retracted position at which the body is engaged, when the cover is closed, and a protection position at which the body is engaged, when the cover is opened. The movement of the body takes place during opening and/or closing of the cover under spring action, where shielding device is made of plastic as a single piece.
