[Also in Division B5] A collapsible tube is formed from a laminated blank of thermoplastic material 14, 15 and metal foil 16, the longitudinal edges of the blank being overlapped, Fig. 2 (not shown), and bonded by heat and pressure so that the thermoplastic layers are reduced in thickness at the seam, the total thickness of which is approximately 75% of the initial combined thickness of the overlapped portions of the blank. Under heat and pressure over an area B the thermoplastic material is forced sideways from the seam A to form fillets 20, 21. Intermediate layers of paper and/or thermoplastic adhesive may be included between the thermoplastic and foil layers. The seam extends the full length of the tube body, Fig. 1 (not shown), to which a thermoplastic headpiece is bonded. The tube is sealed at its lower end after filling. |
