<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having excellent durability without impairing reliability even when the liquid crystal display device is used in severe conditions. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a pair of polarizing plates and a liquid crystal panel part disposed therebetween. The liquid crystal panel part includes a pair of substrates at least one of which has an electrode and which are disposed facing each other, a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystalline molecules whose alignment is controlled by alignment axes which facing surfaces of the pair of substrates have and at least one pair of optically anisotropic layers disposed sandwiching the liquid crystal layer from upper and lower sides. Being concerned with a solid structure formed by the upper and lower alignment control directions of the liquid crystal layer and respective alignment control directions of the pair of optically anisotropic layers, the liquid crystal panel part has a twice rotational symmetrical axis in a direction parallel to the substrate surface, a transmission axis of one polarizing plate of the pair of polarizing plates is parallel to the twice rotational symmetrical axis, a transmission axis of the other polarizing plate is orthogonal to the twice rotational symmetrical axis and at least one transparent layer positioned between the liquid crystal layer and a polarizing layer of the transparent layers which the pair of polarizing plates have exhibits prescribed optical characteristics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
