<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve an entry word including a designated character (character string) as an entry candidate at a jump destination even when searching a text in Chinese etc. which is hard to recognize its break. <P>SOLUTION: When displaying a discription information display screen G1 corresponding to a search entry, a text display screen G2 inputted from the outside or the like, and a jump search is instructed with designation of an arbitrary character by a cursor, a series of character strings including the designated character are extracted, and as entries of forward match, entries of backward match, and entries of intermediate match for the designated character and entries matching the designated character itself, respective entries including the designated character are retrieved from dictionary data and displayed as a list in the order of the longest match.
