PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a friction material that especially, in a disk pad, deals with characteristic demands in the case of use of repeated braking from high-speed traveling and controls occurrence of crack, deterioration of face-to-face attack and fluctuation of effect during braking. SOLUTION: The friction material has a coefficient of thermal conductivityλ(W/m×k), shear strengthσ(MPa) of test piece after heat history, a change rateα(m/m) of thermal expansion contraction and a modulus E(Ma) of elasticity satisfying the following relational expression (λ×σ)÷(α×E)≥500.
