PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for desulfurizing molten iron by which molten iron can be stably desulfurized to the sulfur content of extra-low sulfur steel level at the step of melting iron. SOLUTION: Metallic Mg of 5-30 mass%, metallic Al of 5-30 mass% and CaO-based flux of≥40 mass% are blended and mixed to obtain a granular and/or powdery desulfurizing agent. A iron-coated wire 4 for desulfurizing obtained by coating the above granular and/or powdery desulfurizing agent with iron-base hoop material is supplied into the molten iron 2 through a wire-feeder 5 to perform the desulfurization treatment.
