The method involves filling and heating oil in a steam chamber (5), and burning a combustion material in a combustion chamber (6), where the steam chamber is formed from a ceramic foam. Combustion air is supplied together with the oil, such that water is vaporized to water vapour, where the water vapour is collected in a steam withdrawal chamber (7). The combustion air is guided to the steam chamber towards the combustion chamber such that the combustion air heats the steam chamber at an exterior. An independent claim is also included for steam generators with a steam chamber heated by a burner.
