Movement of a piston 26 by a fuel pulse from a pump 15 first forces fuel for pilot injection through a restriction 24 and then opens orifices 28 leading to grooves 29 by-passing the restriction 24, through which grooves the main injection flows to the injector. The piston 26 slides in a bore 22 in a spring-loaded valve member 20 which lifts off its seat at the end of each injection period to reduce the pressure in the injector delivery passage. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the piston 26 is provided with a restricted bore 30 therethrough which facilitates return of the piston at the end of injection.</p> |
