Sand screen with sensor and inductive coupler

A completion system for use in a well includes a lower completion section 102 and an upper completion section 100. The first completion section has a sand screen 110 to prevent passage of particulates, a first inductive coupler portion 118, and a sensor 114 positioned proximate to the sand control assembly that is electrically coupled to the first inductive coupler portion. The second section is deployable after installation of the first completion section. It includes a second inductive coupler portion 144 to communicate with the first inductive coupler portion, to enable communication between the sensor and a component coupled to the second section. A packer 120 may be included in the upper completion. Other aspects of the invention provide a sensor cable having spaced apart sensors connected by wire inside an outer liner: a sensor cable having sensors placed in an inner chamber containing non-electrically conductive liquid; a spooled sensor cable; a completion system comprising a packer, circulating port and stinger; a completion system comprising a sensor cable provided along an external surface of a casing and an inductive coupler; and a method of completing a well.
