A device and a system for managing documents, and a controlling method, a program, and a recording medium thereof are provided to guarantee originality of the document by comparing registration information with appraisal information, and determining similarity between document information if the same pages are included in the document irrespective of page order or the needed pages are included irrespective of insertion of other pages. A storing part stores a first and second document information including the pages in a page unit. A comparator(116) compares one page of the first document information with the pages of the second document information. A determiner determines whether one page of the first document information is identical with one page of the second document information based on a comparison result. An output part outputs information indicating a determination result. A scanner(170) reads an image of the document by scanning the document. The first and second document information is generated by scanning the first and second document.
