APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING/RECEIVING A SIGNAL IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving a signal in a communication system are provided to minimize a feedback channel overhead due to FBI(Feedback information) feedback by transmitting and receiving the signal with the minimized quantity of FBI. A method for transmitting and receiving a signal in a communication system includes the steps of: estimating a channel frequency response of a received signal; detecting at least one MCS(Modulation and Coding Scheme) level which has a bit error rate below a target bit error rate which is a target in the communication system in correspondence to the estimated channel frequency response; selecting the MCS level which has the minimum bit error rate among the MCS levels; and generating an MCS level index corresponding to the MCS level which has the minimum bit error rate as feedback information of a terminal.
