A vacuum cleaner is provided to clean a narrow area and a wide area conveniently by separating a dust canister from a main body to use as a handy cleaner. A vacuum cleaner includes a main body(30), a motor assembly, and a dust canister(50). The main body has an inlet(31), a discharge outlet(32), and a placing unit. The motor assembly is mounted to the main body to discharge air, which is sucked through the inlet, through the discharge outlet. The dust canister is installed to the placing unit detachably to filter foreign matters in the air sucked through the inlet. The placing unit has a first placing unit and a second placing unit. The first placing unit is formed at one side of the main body so that the dust canister is mounted thereon. The second placing unit is formed at the other side of the main body to be used for a receiving space. The dust canister comprises a case, a cover, a filer, a handle, a handle cover, and a removing unit. The case forms a circular column. The cover is installed to one side of the case and is provided with an inlet and an outlet. The filter is mounted to the outlet. The handle is formed on the cover. The handle cover is installed to the handle to form a space. The removing unit is interposed between the handle and the handle cover to allow the dust canister to be combined to the first placing unit.
