A power transmission apparatus for a hybrid vehicle is provided to preclude the energy circulation, and to confirm that the power is transmitted by branching the power at the hybrid mode through three planetary gear sets and a pair of clutches. A power transmission apparatus for a hybrid vehicle comprises first, second, and third planetary gear sets. The first planetary gear set includes a first sun gear connected to a first motor-generator, a first carrier connected to an engine and rotatably coupled with the first sun gear, and a first ring gear connected to an axle. The second planetary gear set includes a second sun gear connected to the first sun gear, a second carrier rotatably coupled with the second sun gear, and a second ring gear whose inner peripheral surface is rotatably geared with the pinion. The third planetary gear set includes a third sun gear connected to the second ring gear, a third carrier rotatably coupled with the three sun gear, and a third ring gear connected to second first sun gear. The third ring gear is connected between the second sun gear and a fixing point and interrupted by a pair of clutches. The rotary speed of the first and second motor-generators is controlled by interrupting the pair of clutches. The clutches are controlled by a predetermined control module.
