Disclosed are methods, compositions, and kits for inducing polyclonal antibodies against one or more pathogens that include Streptococcus suis. The methods m ay include administering to an animal a composition that includes an isolated 38 kDa polypeptide of Streptococcus suis and a suitable excipient. The methods, compositions, and kits may be used to immunize an animal against infection by Streptococcus suis.
