A mobile terminal having a user state information management function and a method for controlling the same are provided to increase the utilization of data, collected in a mobile terminal, and raise a user's interest by collecting user state information through a mobile terminal and varying environment settings, such as an idle screen, and a bell sound. A mobile terminal having a user state information management function comprises a display part(7), a user state detection part(12), a calculation part(14), a memory(16), and a control part(10). The user state detection part(12) detects a user operation state, such as a user's walking status, walking location or walking speed. The calculation part(14) calculates the detection value provided from the user state detection part(12). The memory(16) stores environment setting information based on user states. The control part(10) judges the user's present state according to the detection value provided through the user state detection part(12) and the calculation part(14), refers to the environment setting information of the memory(16), and varies the environment settings of the mobile terminal.
