The seat has a base (3) with a front end mounted on an upper end of a front connecting rod (9), whose lower end is mounted with respect to a floor pan (P) of a vehicle. A lateral arm (6) is connected to the base and mounted with respect a backrest (2) so that the arm lowers the base against the pan when the backrest is folded horizontally towards the front. A shelf (14) is mounted to a rear of the backrest. A cable (12) connects the shelf to the rod for placing the shelf in a deployed position in which the shelf extends the backrest backwards when the backrest is folded towards the front.
